Kai Surf House is a classic Outer Banks oceanfront home that has proudly weathered many coastal storms over the years. We’ve consistently invested in the essentials—HVAC, roof replacement, and storm-related repairs—to keep the home safe, comfortable, and secure. While we prioritize structural updates and major systems, you may notice some natural wear that comes with a well-loved beachfront property. We are continuing to plan future cosmetic upgrades and truly appreciate guests who value charm and location over luxury finishes. In particular the slider doors have some condensation between the glass that cannot be wiped clean and the ocean front sliders do stick at times from sand getting in the tracks. This home is truly oceanfront—just steps from the sand. With that incredible proximity comes the reality of coastal living. At times, high tides and ocean overwash can bring sand into the driveway area. The home itself remains safe and secure, but parking may occasionally need to be along the roadway or around the corner. We do our best to have sand cleared promptly, though Mother Nature ultimately sets the schedule when you’re this close to the Atlantic. Kai is priced accordingly and offers a rare opportunity to stay in a genuine oceanfront home—where you can cast a line from the deck and fall asleep to the sound of the waves. While it’s not a luxury property, it provides all the essentials for a comfortable stay, plus reliable 24/7 guest support. We believe in being transparent so you can book with confidence. Kai Surf House may not be the perfect fit for everyone, especially those seeking high-end finishes—but if you’re looking for unbeatable location, authentic coastal charm, and attentive hospitality, we’d love to host you.

Please note that Kai is an older home that has weathered many storms. There are some cosmetic repairs needed throughout the home we hope you are able to overlook for its location. It's a rare opportunity to stay at a home so close to the ocean. The homes in this section of the island are quite literally sometimes IN the water at high tide and many homes in this section have been lost to storms and erosion. We hope to keep renting Kai for as long as Mother Nature will let us safely as we have many guests who have been staying at the home for decades. We hope our pricing reflects the nature of the home.
