House Rules

Thank you for respecting our House Rules. Please read this list in its entirety before deciding to book with us. We want all guests to fully enjoy their vacation while also respecting our home. -This is a NO SMOKING home. Please use any and all smoke/vape outdoors at all times, no exceptions. -Max occupancy is 15 guests. -Pets are welcome and we have no breed or size restrictions. We ask all guests to never leave pets unattended in the home. Hatteras Island beaches are very dog friendly as well as all restaurants with outdoor seating. -Rinse all pets WELL before entering the home as they tend to bring a lot of the beach back with them after playing -As well as pets, please rinse all persons before entering to minimize sand in the home -A/C: To avoid service calls, Turn A/C OFF when keeping windows and doors open to enjoy the sound of the waves. Do not set the temp below 68 as it could overwork the system and freeze the fans. -No candles or portable gas fire pits allowed anywhere on the premises. -All house linens and furniture remain inside the home -No metal utensils used in pots and pans. Please only use wooden utensils, silicone or plastic so the pans won't scratch. -Jetted Tub: Sand is very harmful to tub filters, please rinse off before using. Children under 12 must be supervised. No glass in tub please. -Owners closets are locked for a reason. We keep supplies and personal belongings in there for when we visit. Please do not tamper with these doors/locks. -We hope you enjoy your time on the island and thanks again for choosing to stay at Mermaid's Song!

Pets welcome--up to 2 dogs, no cats please. Dogs must be crated when guests are away. Hatteras Island is known for being incredibly dog friendly, any restaurant with outdoor seating is dog friendly!

Neighborhood

The Tri-Village area can be easily explored via car or bike! If you'd like to rent bikes, Island Cycles and Rodanthe Rides (electric bikes and scooters) is within a short distance to Mermaid's Song. Peddle over to the sound for a spectacular sunset or tour the 7 mile scenic, coastal bike path that starts at the Rodanthe Community Building and runs the length of the village to the Salvo Day Use Area Soundisde, making the entire length of the village easily accessible. The Rodanthe Harbor is located behind the community building where you can park & put in your kayak or boat and watch some of the most amazing sunsets over the Pamlico Sound. The small villages of Avon, Buxton and Frisco are all within a short drive. Explore the Bodie & Hatteras Lighthouse, Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge, Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum, and all the beautiful wildlife and beaches up and down HWY 12 South!

My family and I had a great time during our stay at Mermaid Song! It was such a nice get away from the cold winter!! Property is right on the ocean and everything as described in the listing was accurate! Host was always responsive! Would recommend!

We stayed here for three weeks in February and truly loved it. An OBX winter can be a real adventure, and while we didn't necessarily expect to experience two nor'easters and a bomb cyclone this season, we knew we signed up for a winter (and windy) stay! We did deal with some intense weather and significant beach erosion right up to the house during our stay, but the house itself was an absolute fortress. We were so impressed with how spacious and sound-proof it felt from within—even when the wind was howling, it felt like a 'home away from home' inside. On the days the shore was walkable, the shell-hunting was incredible. (thank you king-tides! ha!) We fully appreciated the well-stocked kitchen and the second fridge/mini-kitchen downstairs, which made cooking every night a breeze. We honestly didn't want to leave. If you’re looking for a sturdy, comfortable, and spacious getaway that can handle anything the Atlantic throws at it, this is the spot.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at this beautiful family home in Rodanthe. Everything was perfect—the home itself, the location, and the stunning beach just steps away. The house was comfortable, well cared for, and had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. The host was fabulous: friendly, responsive, and truly made us feel welcome. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience and would love to return!

Fantastic rental. This is a beautiful home in a beautiful setting. Dawn was responsive and helpful throughout, including in extending our stay. We were there for Thanksgiving and really appreciated how great the kitchen was to cook in (the best of any rental we've had--and the only one to have everything we needed). The house was also just very convenient and easy to live in.

This beautiful home is right on the beach and has a great central entertaining space. There were beach chairs and a cooler to use. Bring your own beach towels as they provide bathroom towels but not beach towels. We had a great time cooking in the large kitchen. The sound of the waves is so wonderful.

The Mermaid's Song was an incredible stay. We communicated with Dawn prior to the stay who was gracious enough to allow us to hold our small wedding ceremony and reception at the house. My family traveled from out west and stayed in the home with my fiance and I and it was more than adequate for all of our lodging needs. Additionally, they recently moved the house back slightly away from the beach. Even with the crazy weather the new location provided alot of options for the ceremony and reception and accommodated my family and friends perfectly. Dawn was incredibly responsive and helpful throughout the entire process and always had answers or suggestions for anything I needed. The area isn't crazy buys but there are plenty of spots to pick up any basic provisions. If you're looking for an amazing place to spend some time in the OBX then look no further than the Mermaid's Song.
